Motorcycle Routes Around Kavala

If you’re a rider looking for new routes, the area around Kavala is well worth a visit! Here you’ll find great asphalt with smooth curves and sea views, as well as dozens of off-road and mountain trails in the Pangaio massif – enough variety for sport, touring, or adventure riding.

Asphalt

Besides the main route Kavala – Zygos – Palia Kavala – Eleftheroupoli – Pangaio, the area also offers alternative detours to coastal villages, some of which offer the best views over the bay. The road surface is in good condition for most of the year, and traffic outside the tourist season is minimal – perfect for a relaxed ride with photo stops. Many riders combine the route with a short stop for coffee or lunch in one of the villages along the way. You can find more route ideas here: kavala-online.com.

Off-road / Adventure / Enduro

The terrain ranges from wide gravel roads suitable for heavier adventure bikes to narrow, technical forest trails that challenge even experienced enduro riders. Spring and autumn are the best seasons – summer heat and dust can make riding harder, while in winter some sections become muddy and hard to pass. It’s a good idea to carry enough water, a charged phone, and ideally have someone who knows the route with you, especially in the more remote parts of the mountain. Organized tours are also available: visitkavala.gr and enduro-touring.gr.

Mount Pangaio

Besides the natural scenery, along the way you’ll come across picturesque villages with traditional architecture, small churches, and places to stop and rest. Pangaio has been known since antiquity for its gold and silver mines – today the mountain offers a wonderful mix of nature, history, and adrenaline for anyone who loves two wheels.

Practical tips

Before you set off, check your fuel level – gas stations are scarce in the more mountainous areas. Wear proper protective gear even on shorter routes, since the terrain can change quickly. If you’re not familiar with the area, it’s a good idea to download an offline map or GPS route in advance, as mobile coverage in some parts of Pangaio is weak.
