Cheap Bus Tickets Thessaloniki – Kavala – Thessaloniki
The bus connection between Thessaloniki and Kavala is one of the most convenient and affordable ways to travel between the two cities in Northern Greece. The route is mainly operated by the regional carrier KTEL Kavala, with frequent departures throughout the day. See also our other tips for transport to and around Kavala.
Distance and Duration
The distance between Thessaloniki and Kavala is approximately 150–160 km, and the travel time varies between 2 and 2.5 hours depending on the route – direct (“express”) buses take about 2 hours, while routes via Peramos or Eleftheroupoli take a bit longer.
Schedule and Frequency
The frequency of buses on this route is high – between 14 and 17 departures daily, usually between 06:00 and 22:00. Buses depart from the KTEL Macedonia bus station in Thessaloniki (the largest bus terminal in Greece, located about 5 km from the center, in the Menemeni area) and arrive at the central KTEL Kavala bus station.
Prices and Where to Buy Tickets
The official ticket price directly from the KTEL counter is about €18 one way (with discounts of up to 25% or 50% for certain categories of passengers) and about €33 for a round-trip ticket. When purchasing through online booking platforms or intermediaries, prices can be slightly higher – usually between €20 and €28 – due to an added service fee. Tickets can be purchased at bus station counters, through the KTEL websites, or through online bus ticket booking platforms.
Tips for Cheaper Travel
For the lowest price, we recommend buying directly from the KTEL counter rather than through an intermediary. A round-trip ticket is usually cheaper than two separate one-way tickets. Students and other passenger categories eligible for discounts must show the relevant document at the counter when purchasing.
