Recommended Restaurants
These are the places I recommend in Kavala. They are not a ranking, and none of them paid to be here. Each has its own page with the address, prices and practical tips.
The places we trust

Tsipouradiko Perdikis
A street taverna in the centre where the locals have dinner. Greek salad, sarma, shrimp saganaki and fish – around €15 per person. Open every day.

Proto Katsiki
Charcoal-grilled meat by the sea – pork chop, beef cheeks, pork knuckle, sometimes kid goat on the spit. There is live music on Saturdays, and you won’t get a table without a reservation.

Vouka
Greek cuisine served in a modern way, with a view of the harbor. Octopus, liver, cheese in kataifi, and unique salads and dips.

Gorgona
A tsipouradiko in a narrow side street where the owner, Yannis, welcomes you himself. Bouyiourdi, octopus and ouzo, and in summer evenings with live music.

Molos
A seafood taverna on the old mole, where flour once used to be loaded onto ships. Dinner a step from the waves, with the old town lit up across the water.

Savvas
A seafood restaurant on the old harbor, open since 1996. All kinds of fresh fish, octopus and calamari. There is parking; it’s a 30-minute walk from the centre.

Meltemi
A family-run taverna by the harbor, open since 2009. Fish, seafood, and grilled dishes with a sea view.

Ta Batzanakia
A modern family taverna at 91 Volou Street, popular mainly with locals. Excellent starters, panceta and tigania at fair prices.
The list keeps growing — much like our appetite.
In short
- For fish: Savvas and Perdikis.
- For meat: Proto Katsiki.
- For something different: Vouka.
- For mezze and music: Gorgona, or Proto Katsiki on a Saturday.
